The Fonteyn Theatre
The Federal Academy of Ballet is one of the only ballet schools in Malaysia to have their own performing theatre. The building in FAB's headquarters was initially a 4 storey building, however, Lee Lee Lan saw an envisioned her ballet school with a performing theatre that allowed her dancers ceiling space, and performance atmosphere to perform. Thus, the fifth level, The Fonteyn was designed by Lee Lee Lan and engineered and built by her husband.
The Fonteyn Studio Theatre, named after Dame Margot Fonteyn, is located on the 5th floor of our headquarters in Section 14 Petaling Jaya. It is a black box theatrerette with a seating capacity of 100 on the retractable seating platforms, with additional platforms and seating at the side for a full capacity of about 130. It is fully equipped with a lighting and sound control room with a 24 channel dimmer panel and 36 dimmer packs with an assortment of lights, including Spots, Fresnels, Beam and floodlights. A high powered sound system is included. The studio theatre is is equipped with a Harlequin floor and a Mini Grand Piano. There is a box office and refreshments bar located in the airconditioned waiting area immediately outside the theatre. The theatre is ideal for small productions which do not require props and is very engaging with intimate audience and performer interaction. |
