Ballet Masterclasses with Crimsom Guirjem

Crimson Guirjem, aged 30, began training in his hometown Iloilo on the island Panay, Philippines with the Annie Divinagracia Sartorio School of Performing Arts at the age of 17, covering ballet, hip hop, jazz and contemporary dance. He received his Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education from the University of St Agustin in 2013, Iloilo; majoring in Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health (MAPEH).
In 2011, he joined the Claravall-Gonzalez School of Classical Ballet which was hailed as the only Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) accredited institution in the Visayas Islands of the Philippines. At the school he performed in the full length ballets “Don Quixote”, “Sleeping “Beauty” and “Paquita”.
Upon the recommendation of his mentor Nila Claravall-Gonzalez, Crimson took classes with Philippine Ballet Theatre in Manila in 2012 and in 2014 he was invited to be a member of the company. With Philippine Ballet Theatre, Crimson performed in “Carmen”, “La Bayadere”, “Serye at Sayaw” (a compilation of dances), “Dancing In One Voice” (which incorporated live vocals by leading Filipino soloists) and “Sarangen Ni Bantugen” (a Filipino epic) and held the roles of Espada in “Don Quixote”, the Arabian Dancer in “The Nutcracker”, The Prince in “The Nutcracker”, Count Danilo Danilovitsch in “The Merry Widow” and Prince Desiree in “Sleeping Beauty” .
Crimson has choreographed various pieces including “Mga Babaeng Bayani ng Panay” which was commissioned for the Philippine Department of Tourism and performed at The Cultural Centre of the Philippines, Manila in 2013 and “Comfort Women” for the dance festival Pasinaya 2015 in Manila which was awarded a grant by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. In the same year, he also choreographed for the following choral numbers in The Canticle Singers’ production of ENCORE at Experimental Theatre, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur: “This Joint is Jumpin” (jazz), “Electricity” (a contemporary number from the musical “Billy Elliot”), “I Got Rhythm” (jazz) and “All the Things You Are” (contemporary number from “Very Warm for May”)
Crimson was invited by the Australian Conservertoire of Ballet in Melbourne, Australia to perform in its production of “Sleeping Beauty” in 2014. At The Canticle Singers’ production of ENCORE in Kuala Lumpur in 2015, he performed in three of the four numbers he choreographed: a solo (“This Joint is Jumpin”), in a female and male duet (“All The Things You Are”) and in a male trio (“I Got Rhythm”) On a part time basis, Crimson teaches ballet, contemporary dance, hip hop and jazz; at The Centre for Movement and Music, Manila.
